New Car Issues
Last week I bought my wife a new car, its a 2004 mitsubishi colt bought from a franchised fiat dealer. I did something I dont usually do and agreed to the sale without seeing the car as the dealer where the car was at is based 90 miles from me. On the morning I went to collect the car I noticed that a headlamp had obviously been replaced as it had the markings that salvage yards use to identify parts they have sold. When I asked the sales woman about this she just said it had had a knock in the yard because of the snow. When I drove the car home I noticed there was a light for the airbag light up on the dash and a warning about the passenger air bag been turned off which is done via a key switch so carried on driving home and reactivated the passenger airbag when I got home assuming this would remove the warning which It did however the airbag light stayed lit. Now ive had a better chance to look over the car its clear its had more than a little scrape both headlights have been replaced the windscreen has been replaced and passibly many of the front end panels as its obviously had a full front end re-paint. Im not too concerened about it having a bump aslong as its been reapired properly however the airbag light is worrying as potentially they may not work in the event of an accident if theres a fault in the system possibly due to the accident damage. The car came with a 3 month warranty however it does not cover airbags. Ive contacted the sales woman and im waiting for her to get back to me. Does anyone know how I stand legally here if they refuse to correct the airbag fault? From my point of view they have sold a car in a dangerous condition with this potential airbag fault. Any advice appreciated.

Not really a dangerous fault.
Could simply be a wiring fault. The only way to test if an airbag works is to have a crash. thats in any car.
Peugeots used to have dicky wiring.
As for the headlamps being replaced. Jappy cars can be horrendously overpriced on parts, hence whh they will have replaced both with 2nd hand ones.
winscreen could have been replaced last week, last month, last year. Something simple like a stone chip or a crack due to the weather.
You should be happy that the garage are honest enough to tell you it did have a bump on the yard in the snow. I know most places wont tell you.
On a final note, you chose to buy from a garage 90 miles away. they didnt force you.0 -
Has it got any airbags in, when my nephew front ended his car and discharged both airbags, the bodyshop asked him if he wanted the airbags replacing or not! He, of course had them replaced.
