win 7 - delete folder

I am toying with windows 7 and there is a folder left over from a previous install of windows 7.
I am trying to delete the folder - and got all the business with "you need permission from trusted installer" etc.
I have deleted the items I can delete in the sub folders but there is still stuff in the folder and the parent folder permissions have been changed etc but still I get you "you need permission to do this, you need permission from administrator".
The user I am logged on as is administrator and still cannot delete it. I have changed the ownership (I think) - anyone got any ideas.
On another note, cannot see what exactly win 7 is offering once you strip away the theme and put classic menu back in - its just vista with sp3  and more annoyances.

How did you change ownership?
You can try using the command line utility cacls if the normal graphical interface did not work. Do you know how to use the command line?
What new annoyancs does Windows 7 provide? I found it to be much better because UAC is not so annoying any more.
The great thing about Windows 7 is that it is far more efficient in terms of RAM usage than Vista - it is a lot lower. It is also supposed to be a lot quicker on slower computers than Vista.
Application compatibility is supposed to be improved.0 -

Folder name is "Program Files (x86)"
I right clicked and went through properties, security -> Edit to change permissions to full and Advance to get to Owners.
I tried to delete with dos but obviously get permission issue.0 -

Feeling silly now (I had been at this for 24 hours) but I just got it. I went to Properties -> Security, clicked Advanced and then Permissions tab and clicked on Change Permissions and had to put a check box in "Include Inheritable permissions from this object's parent" as well as "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from the this object".
Then its allowed the delete to happen.0 -
That is the folder for 32-bit programs. I assume that you are running a 64-bit version of Windows 7? It only places 64-bit programs in the normal program files folder by default.0

I installed 64 bit version on 32 bit system by mistake. Seemed to work oddly enough. Did not realise it for a few hours but then put the right 32 bit version on and but it left that folder behind.0
