no we arent on economy7,
i dont know what meters we have, sorry :S
i just know on the bill it has white meter and it works out cheaper at night at 5.805p per kWh and 12.848 during the day.
sorry if what ive said is no help at all

So you are on Economy 7 (or some sort of dual rate tariff). But if you are not heating your flat with storage heaters during the cheap rate period (probably 12-7am), then you are paying a premium to heat if during the peak hours. Change to a non E7 tariff.
Is your actual usage £250pm , or is that estimated? Does that include some debt?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
our elctric bill is way too expensive i think. About £250 a month, i know its winter but come on.
we turn everything off when its not in use, only put the heating on at night as no one is in during the day.
its not a big place, 3bedrooms.
its an all electric place aswell, no gas. but i didnt think it would go up that much!!

You are on Economy 7 also known as a white meter: your prices per KWH seem expensive, I am paying around 5p night and 10p day. Are you still on the standard tariff with the deemed supplier or have you tried switching?
What kind of heaters do you have, storage heaters or radiant panel or another? If you don't know Google some pictures and get back to us. If you are turning heaters on during the daytime instead of storing heat overnight that will partially explain your expensive bills. How many rooms are you heating? Have you considered an electric underblanket for your bed? These cost pennies to run.
Also look at your usage of hot water - do you have a power shower, what temperature do you do laundry at? Do you use a tumble dryer? Leaving things on standby and lighting use very little power, it's anything that produces heat that you need to work on.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Hi tasha2010
Based on the unit rates you were providing, I beleive that you are not paying for your electricity by monthly Direct Debit and therefore you are not being given the best possible unit rates with ScottishPower.
If you are happy to pay Direct Debit, you have internet access within the house, and you are able to read your meters easily, I would suggest going onto one of our online tariffs. That way you will reduce your unit rate and you will also be able to update your own meter readings as often as you wish. This will provide you with more accurate information on how much you are using. For example, if you created an online account this week, you can update meter readings next week and see exactly how much you have used within 7 days. You could then make some of the changes detailed in this thread to try and reduce your consumption for the week after, and again update meter readings after a week to see what effect this change has had on your charges.
I would advise you to contact us as soon as you can to discuss better tariffs that are available to you now. Once you have been provided with our best rates, you will then be in a better position to compare these rates with other suppliers to see if further savings can be made.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further queries and I will be happy to help.
Kind Regards

I use EON energy and need to find a new way to heat my 3 bedroom flat. I don't feel storage heaters are good for two reasons:
1. Heat release happens at the wrong hours (I am normally home in the evenings).
2. The heat is quite dry and not as nice as central heating.
I was wondering if anyone in this thread knows about electric water radiators?
Thanks
