What do you think is cheaper to buy than make from scratch?

Pasta.
Dried is cheaper than home-made fresh.
I think quite a lot of things are cheaper bought than home-made, but the question is, are they the same?
As a general rule, the foods you make from scratch will be better as they contain only normal ingredients - no preservatives, colours or flavour enhancers.
Also of course you know what is in food you've made.
And most importantly....home-made tastes better!

Surely not the value ones??? nobody is going to pay £1.29 for them!! I am so curious if it wasn't too late I would nip over to Tesco's and have a look!!Slightly bitter0 -

it seems to be in some tescos and not others, they were £1.29 in one of the stores I use on Friday so I left it and bought another brand at 39p for 150g0 -
Hello there
I think most items that are home made can be bought relatively cheeply - particularly if they are value range and /or whoops. But the main reason to HM IMHO is that stuff just tastes better and you know exactly what it contains.
Home Grown is a different thing altogether - seeds cost pence and with a little bit of love, will feed you for months.
I make nearly everything from scratch - its just as much about what's in your food as it is about how much it costs
Best Wishes

That's a very good point IOIWE. I was in a very posh farm shop with DD2 recenty and we were amazed at the prices they were charging for pre-prepared meals. To be fair they probably weren't full of additives but my point was that there was no way I'd pay for a hugely expensive lasagne but I might (as a treat when we had guests) pay for a fresh raspberry roulade, It's about paying for someone's time and expertise. Which I suppose is why everyone doesn't do OS and HM every day.......?? (Where are the shruggies and rolled eyes when you need them!)0 -
Rice pudding. At 18p a can of creamy rice pud from Asda is cheaper than I can make myself, and it tastes better as well

Not mine! Mine is gorgeous, but canned rice pudding does have its place. It's not worth putting the oven on for a couple of hours just for a rice pud!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
