Barclays Bank Account Application Lost ?

On the 27th January I applied online for a Barclays Current account, I got an email back to say that they would write to me within 4 working days to let me know if I had been successful or not. I called them after 4 days as I had not heard and was told they have no trace of the application !, I called them again a few days later and was told the same thing. Last week I went into the branch as was told they could not access that information but I could make an appointment to come in for someone to try and check or to reapply !.
Has my application been lost, should I try again or just give up !, or does it take longer than 4 days in reality, and as they say is no news good news !.
Thanks.

should only take a week to check your background infomation, such as credit file and type of other accounts you may had or ccj or defults ect,the risk side of opening a account to the bank, that sort of stuff
only thing i can think of is if you filled in a phising scam site application,
thing is if it is on their system them when u go elsewere since it is pending it may go against you,(too many applications for bank accounts)
best to chase them again and get it sorted,"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -

I don't think it was a phising site as I type in the address myself and as part of the application it asked me questions like you applied for a credit card in Nov 2008 was it with Abbey, Natwest or Capital one ?.
This means I did not have to prove ID as if I could answer all the questions, I also checked equifax and a credit search was done by Barclays Bank on the same date.0 -
yes well the same thing happened to me when i opened on my first attempt to hsbc back in 2006, i sooner found out the application they climed to have lost it but they had checked my credit file, so i think its a case of waiting because if experian have a copy on your file, that means there teams such as fraud and assisment are doing the prior checks for the account to be open, all banks do it these days,"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0

It's good to apply for things in branch, as everything is done on the spot, and the account is opened immediately with sort code and account number, instead of waiting for a few days.0

I done it online as being in Scotland Barclays Branches are few and far between, and as it was a Joint acount trying to get us both free to get into a branch would be difficult.
They can't really have lost the application can they ?, after all I did get this.........
Dear Mrs xxxxx and Mr xxxxxx
Thank you for your application. You will hear from us shortly.
A Barclays Bank Account offers a range of services you’d expect from a current account and gives you the flexibility to manage your account online, by phone or in branch.
What next?
1. We'll write to you within four working days to tell you whether your application is successful.
2. If it is you'll need to pop to your local branch with your ID (proof of address and suitable ID information) - we'll tell you what you need to bring in the letter.
