IE download security

Maybe it can't be switched off but I thought it was worth a shot to ask as I can't find it.
When you click a file to download in IE an annoying bar appears across the top to ask you to authorise the download. That wouldn't be an issue if IE didnt refresh the page!
Anywho, does anyone know how to disable this annoying "security" feature? I'm using IE8.
P.s. I could switch to another browser but quite like IE:o

Ignore me... just did some more googling and found it

To control notification for ActiveX controls and for file downloads, follow these steps:- In Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
- Click the Security tab.
- There are four security zones listed:
- Internet
- Local intranet
- Trusted sites
- Restricted sites
- Under Security level for this zone, click Custom Level.
- Under ActiveX controls and plug-ins, under Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls, click Disable or click Enable.
- Under Downloads, under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click Disable or click Enable, and then click OK two times.

I suggest you put the ActiveX setting back the way you found it - those security measures are there for a reason.0

and i suggest that you uninstall IE and use summat like firefox.Get some gorm.0

Whilst you can deny access to the browser itself the underlying layout engine is still used in other applications and thus cannot usually be removed without breaking something....uninstall IE...0 -
What version of Windows are you using?
You only want to change 'Automatic prompting for file downloads' and leave the ActiveX one as it is.0 -
Yeah, I realise about the ActiveX setting
