Travelling to Australia Alone..Help!

I have 3 weeks off in september and I thought I would use my time to do a mini tour around australia. I would rather go as part of an organised tour as I'm not a total backpacker, I'm on my own and I've never done anything like this before. Any ideas of agencies I can contact? I am flexible as to where I go too, doesn't have to be australia. Thanks

I booked a tour with 'Connections' through STA Travel who were excellent. They deal exclusively with independent travellers and really helped me sort out my itinery and gave me suggestions of things to do, helped me book my first few nights accomodation and all sorts of useful stuff. Their local knowledge was excellent - they know all the tour companies and what they offer and can do great deals on air tickets too.
Take a browse on their website...

I actually found it cheaper to book through this kind of agent as they worked hard to get me good deals on each bit of the trip (flights, accomodation, tours, etc) rather than some of the tour companies who tried to make me book the whole thing as a package with really expensive flights.
Hope this helps!0 -
in addition to previous posts please do this
do yourself a favour and also the loved ones that you are leaving behind, by photo coping all your relevant papers i.e Passport visa, driving license
and leave them with some at home I don't want to scare you but if any thing does go wrong these are the type of things that will be needed here in the uk
i hope you have a wonderful time it is a beautiful country.0 -
Good idea. I will do that. Gonna look at some of the websites now. I thought STA travel was for student only?0
-
no, STA deals a lot with students, particularly gap year travels but now they deal with any independent traveller. Having said that, they often have good deals for under 26 year olds (students or non students).0

The (more adventurous) singles at my work ALL use Kumuka for the trip you're talking about:

for SE Asia trips they use Gecko:

Thanks guys you have been really helpful. Found a good trip with STA travel. Cairns to Sydney 14 days - Island Suntanner. Fits in with my dates and lots of singletons going so I won't look so sad. Thank you again for all your help.0

don't worry about being on your own. I went to australia in 1995 on my own, i was there for 18 months (over stayed my visa) and to be honest going on your own makes you make an effort to get out and meet people. if you go with a friend you either stay together and not really mix or you fall out and end up on your own anyway
good luck oz is a great first step to being out there on your own. I have since realised how easy it is and have been to thailand, egypt and israel on my own.
have you thought about stopping over somewhere on the way there or on the way back?0 -
Im off to oz in sept as well, back packing is great and if you do it on your own you're more likely to meet people!:santa2:0
