    Thanks again for all the really useful advice. I didn't want to lose the car, so we've just agreed a compromise at £9150. Happy with that.

    Hmmm, I think I need a script for these conversations! The tax is only £35/year, so not too much of an issue. Insisted on one new tyre and a service, but completely forgot to mention petrol. Whoops.

    Should have held off.

    I bet come 5pm they would have given you an offer you couldnt have said no to. Never ever accept a dealers word that its the best they can offer or time limited.

    Come 4pm he would have been getting hassled to complete the sale and given you exactly what you wanted if not more.

    Instead he has 4 hours to find a second sale and someone elsewill get a phenominal deal.
