  • I don't know much about PS3s. However you might find this thread useful. The answer is no, not really:

The voicemail on Sipgate is great, it is stored on the Sipgate servers.
You can dial in to pick up your voicemails, but you can also
automaticaly get an email each time you are left a voicemail.
The email includes the phone number of the caller and you have have the voicemail attached as an audio file (.wav).
You can also log in to your Sipgate account on the web and listen to you voicemails there.
    All the above are free.

You can pay 9p per message to get text notifications too.

This inspired me to try this out. I have it set to try my mobile if unanswered, then if that doesn't connect then go to voicemail. I also have it set to email and SMS me if a voicemail arrives.

The mobile redirect works fine. The voicemail seems to work fine in so far as it takes the message. However it then seems to vanish - no SMS, no sign of it online, or when you dial in to hear it. Maybe there's a delay.

It is very funky, though, like having your own switchboard :)

That does not sound right, it's immediate for me. Maybe your mobile's voicemail kicked in before it got a chance to switch back to Sipgate.
  • I thought that. However I turned that off and tried again. In both cases the voicemail you hear on the calling line is the Sipgate one (that "I'm a classically trained actor" default voice)

I shall try again tomorrow :)
  • Thanks for all the responses. The vodafone contracts are for work and personal with only one that is due for renewal this month. That said, I'll look to see what 3g on Three offers and try it out (as suggested). I have signed up to Skype and successfully made my first call - to Australia no less - for free skype-skype.

Whilst trying out three 3g is like, I'll reduce my telephone bill down to line rental only.

The key to this seems to be that although it shows as configured on the screen it doesn't actually start working until you dial 50000 from the Sipgate number for the first time - in my case to set a personal greeting. Having done that, it works a treat now.

I had no phone line for 3.5 years and was using VoIP over a cable broadband connection, only have phone line now due to a retentions offer meaning I get more services, higher package all a lot cheaper.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
