iPod cannot charge on my alarm clock?

I got a new 8GB iPod nano for Christmas it's the latest one that takes photos and plays videos.
Anyway last night i put it into my alarm clock docking station as it was running low and wee sis has taken my old ipod but this morning it didn't wake me up. I've now realised that when the alarm turns on the first thing the ipod does is put up a message saying that charging is not compatible with this device.
Do I need a new alarm clock if i want to wake up to itunes?

Haven't you answered your own question??
If anyone wants to research this fault the very least required would be the make/model of the alrm clock!!!
I bought my little 'un a clock/radio a couple of years back which had two iPod docking stations on the top, an iPhone could go on either dock, and iPod Touch could only go on one of the docks.
Maybe Apple will bring out a future upgraded iPhone/iPod which will charge on any device with the right connector...... for another £££$$$$£££0 -
Well how are you supposed to charge the thing then? It wont charge from the official ipod wall plug i got with my very first ipod, it wont charge on this (but will charge on my sisters station even though it's older) it's driving me mad. I use a netbook so can hardly be charging off the usb all the time. I thought perhaps it was a software thing that you could program out as i can't see how charging isn't compatible in one model but is in another even though it's the same attachment iykwim?0

You have simply described an Apple product.
Good as they are, Apple are a money making machine. Why would they accept 3rd party chargers??
I completely agree with your frustrated comments. That is precisely why I do not own (or ever will own) an Apple product.

The USB cable can plug into a mains plug, which you probably don't have.

Obviously worth a go but Apple can be a pain.
Like the alarm clock I mention earlier. The iPhone can sit on either dock and charge quite happily.
Put the iPod Touch on the wrong one and it simply won't charge (as described in the manual), even though the connector on the bottom is the same
The first iPod I bought was even worse, you couldn't even CHARGE the thing unless iTunes was running.
Plug it in the USB port and nothing...nada...zilch
Open iTunes and voila! charging up fine.
Obviously this meant you had to drag your own laptop around to charge it. You couldn't use someone elses computer/iTunes or you would be accused of high seas piracy of all your music.
Never did try it on a mains/usb adaptor but I did try it on a 12v car adaptor with no success.0 -
I used to charge my old ipod mini using firewire, I think... alas, no more. Pretty sure that one also came with a mains charger, but I don't think they include them anymore. Luckily for us we got mains chargers with our iphones. My TV is broken!

sounds to me as your alarm clock is an old model, the cheaper docks that are around are not always compatable with the last few gens of iPods.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

Apple changed how iPods charged not so long ago, which rendered the newer ones incompatible with older docks.
It has nothing to do with screwing everyone over, and everything to do with totally removing Firewire from iPods. They're wired differently internally, so if you want to use something to charge it, you need a device compatible with the newest generation of iPods.0
