I was wondering if anyone was able to advise me.

My son hasn't got broadband at his mum's but he wants to try and play on the XBox online. His mum hasn't got a phone line so she uses a usb dongle for internet on her laptop. Can you buy something that will make the dongle so it can be used by a laptop, and xbox at the same time? Can we plug a dongle into a wireless type router so that the signal is broadcast throughout the house

Windows has built-in internet connection sharing, so the wireless dongle connection can be shared with the Xbox if there is a network connection between the Xbox and the laptop (either wireless or wired). Alternatively, it is possible to buy wireless routers into which you can plug a dongle; however, I think that these are quite expensive.

Please make sure that your son's mum has a comprehensive data plan from her provider though, as lots of gaming could be expensive if she only has a small amount of data included.

Also note that gaming will likely suffer from higher latency than on a normal broadband connection and it could be very unsatisfactory if the connection ever drops briefly (you wouldn't notice this when browsing the web, but it would be a problem for gaming).
