"" Beep codes = nothing whatsoever\no beeps, half a fan turn is literally all I get and ONLY when turning on at the mains and then pressing the power switch\shorting the pins ""
- because you said ' half a turn ' on the CPU fan leads to failed CPU / MOBO / BIOS if you look at the MOBO book, work out the pins and stick a speaker across the pins you should get beep codes
"" The links were interesting but didn't seem to offer any help with my current situation ""
- If you get beep codes the links will be invaluable
"" I may be missing something but how will removing the BIOS battery help? ""
- There are millions of old wives rubbish tales about computer fix's, one that does occasionally work with a ' frozen ' BIOS is the 12 hours without a brain / battery. it's a very long shot I know but as I assumed from your first post that your CPU was goosed, I thought you might want to try to trick it into life one more time !
"" I will try a third PSU just to see if it makes a difference - again thanks for your suggestions ""
- This is a-n-other inexplicable, why the third and not the first two, I don't know, but it does sometimes work.
- and the last one is to put in a totally different brand of Video Card, ie, Radoen to nVidea etc!
I wish I could bring you better news but it sounds like CPUDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Didn't think about shorting the speaker pins as well as power, DOH! I tried a third PSU with the same results. I think your right; the mobo, BIOS and\ or CPU have called it a day so I've got another 2nd hand board\CPU bundle from eBay that I'll use to sell the PC.
Thanks for all of the suggestions!0 -
