Car left in street

A neighbour moved in the week but has left a car behind, now parked on the road (was always on their drive). It is not taxed and I know it has no insurance, if they don't collect it soon who should be told? council, police or DVLA? Don't know where they have gone to.

You can report untaxed cars, that are on the public road, on the DVLA website.

Don't expect them to act very quickly though.

In my experience, they act very quickly indeed!

Not in my experience. I reported a car to the DVLA which was dumped in my street and nothing ever happened.
After several weeks I phoned the council and they were up the next day to arrange to take the vehicle away.
  • Why not cut the guy some slack?

Moving is an expensive businsess, someone will know where he is and could contact him.

Fair enough. I've only used them twice to report untaxed cars - one appeared abandoned and the other was a former neighbour who I know was still using the car and also had no insurance. Both times a clamp was placed on the car within 48 hours of my online report, the abandoned car was lifted about a week later and the other had a fresh new tax disc several days later.

Because someone like the owner of the untaxed and uninsured vehicle is several times more likely to not give a rats arris, have an accident and kill your friends and family.

  • Your local council should also have a number / page on their web site to report abandoned vehicles.
