Just bought some great wild flower seeded paper from the exotic paper co for my inivites which will grow if planted in the ground! What a great idea! Also found some great recycled paper, really quirky, made from elephant poo of all things!!!:j

First you take 1 elephant... :rotfl:

    Sorry I just couldn't help myself! ;)

I should have thought it would be possible... Maybe easier with natural papers... might put some thought into this one :)

Well at £20 for 5 sheets I'd think a lot of effort could be applied to working out how to do it yourself :)

    I make plantable paper
this is what we did as cards

we put a short poem along the lines of

We send you this greeting, instead of a card
being a friend of the earth, is sometimes quite hard
when frosts have gone, plant this in the ground
and when springtime comes, flowers will be found

    006-5.jpg

its cheap and easy to make
and we use our junk mail to do it
we also make herb disks, to plant into pots, and parcel them up with hand painted pots & a wee bag of compost inside for people who dont have gardens

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

    how much?????????????

    wow
as i said, we use our junk mail
we tried toilet roll tubes, but its difficult to dye it
for that i showed earlier, to make 15 A4 sheets, i used a postage stamp size piece of yellow tissue paper

so unless you want elephant coloured paper, TP tubes are no good:D
we tried turmeric, but felt curry paper was a bit of a turn off:D

I quote from the exotic paper co:
We now stock sheets of Handmade Wildflower Seed paper. Growable and plantable paper (280gsm) in packs of 5 sheets (45cms x 55cms), for only £20.00 per pack

    BARGAIN! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Fancy sharing with us how you make yours? :) I'm all for nature but not at £20 for 5 sheets I fear :D

  • they are having a laugh

like everything instructional written down it will seem LOADS
    but its not

I have a paper makers frame, which i will photograph
and i shall write down what i do
the frames are not expensive to make if you are handy
but they can be a few £££s to buy
part from that you dont need anything else really:D

its easy, fun, and a wee bit messy
but we do it outside, as you are better waiting till dry warmish days outside to dry it

i shall take a photo now and come back
  • I hope this is going to make sense:D

start of by tearing paper, we use junk mail, but not glossy, just letters
any paper really without colour if you want nice pale paper/card

place this in a basin with warm water and leave overnight
we use different things to colour, a TINY piece of tissue paper gives a nice pastel colour to a whole bowlful,
in the morning you wil have a nice squishy gloopy bowl of pulp

    this is the frame
this makes approx an A4 size
its like 2 photoframes with no glass etc, mine are joined together but do no need to be
    001-14.jpg

you also need a gauze type sheet (to allow water to drain through but retain the paper/pulp, and something to make your paper onto, i have used an old lino floor tiles etc and that gives a nice homemade texture

unfortunately you cannot see in this but the one on the right has lots of wee holes
    002-12.jpg

2 old towels, and you are ready

make sure all your paper is nice & mushy
squidge through your fingers, it should just be like tiny pieces that disappear when you squeeze them (it seems a thin liquid to make paper but it works)
if using seeds, now is the time to sprinkle on to the water, and swirl it a little
you can ommit this, and make glittery paper, or after pressing, while wet add dried flower petals

place gauze in frames and close like a sandwich
take frame in both hands so its facing you flat on facing you
dredge through the pulp & water, and lift out so the frames are now flat like holding a tea tray. let water drain out as much as possible,
put frames down, open, place your tile/flat surface object on top of pulp, and flip so tile is now on the bottom, pulp in the middle, gauze on top
lift gauze so you now have pulp on tile
place 2nd tile on top and put on a towel on the floor
    place another towel on top
and stand on it to press out more water
repeat this making as many sheets as you need/want

take all your tiles with pulp on, lift top tile so you have pulp/paper on bottom tile and allow to dry on bottom tile, its best if it takes a few days, if done too quickly it curls if its paper
more pulp in frame makes card, and i have ironed paper if it does curl!

you do not need to use a tile, but you can get them from the £1 shop for a pk of 6 or 8, off cuts of lino, anything flat, and waterproof does

jeez i hope that makes sense
it sounds LOADS but its really not
kids love doing this as well:D
  • someone please tell me that made sense^^^^^

it did as it was leaving my head:D
