Does anybody do mystery shopping?

You'll be sometimes asked to purchase and keep such products as clothes, spectacles, groceries, petrol and car servicing. You will receive reimbursement for many purchases. You might receive free cinema tickets to check whether you received good service, the popcorn was fresh and the sound and vision of the film was clear. You might then be able to follow that with a meal out - restaurants provide free meals and drinks for mystery diners. If you make an effort to join quite a few agencies, good money can be earned.
Many outlets also regularly run mystery shopping tests for their home delivery and take-away service. You’ll also have the ability to take your children with you on some mystery shopping visits. Some fast food restaurants prefer if you take children on the visit. Amusement park assessments often require children to be taken along. You can also get paid to shop online. Major online companies will pay you to buy things from their website and evaluate the service you receive.
The bottom line is effort equals reward. Many mystery shoppers earn £100's per week.0 -

All of which can be found from the link in post#2

You were doing so well until the last line.
From my 10years + experience I think it should read "earn £10's per week....."
I know the MS thread is very long and is full of chat :- but if you actually persevere and read it you may get an insight as to the huge effort (for little reward) mystery shopping involves.
I'll repeat the link

I tried it and didn't make any money at all.
There are other things that do work out there, it's just finding something to suit you0 -
After tax and NI is paid you end up with £7.20 per job at 8 jobs a day = £57.60
And you will never get 8 jobs a day so hundreds a week?
Nah don't think so.

it was a good earner but its gets worse by the week, i wont touch any jobs thta pay less than £10 now0

I do mystery shopping but as an add on to daily life. So if I know I need to go into town I will see if there are any jobs going, I would have spent the money on petrol anyway.0

John
NI is only £2.40 a week or you can claim exemption if you earn less than approx £5K per year from self employment.
You are assuming people pay tax on the full fee and haven't factored in the personal allowance, or allowable expenses you can offest against tax such as mileage costs. Here I go again on my own....0 -
N I is £2.40 a week on any income below around the £5,600 mark.
Any income above this and Class 4 N I is due @ 8%.
If you work for a firm and pay your N I out of that wage don't think you pay any N I.
I'm self employed so the above applies for any extra work I do outside my main work.
Or that's what I was led to believe
Since most people do this as an add on they get there personal allowance on their main wage therefore full 20% tax is due less any allowances for petrol etc.

Ive made £350-600 some weeks doing it.
it depends on the jobs you get and the companies you are signed up for.
For me the £10 jobs are fillers that ill do on way to a higher paid job or while in the area
also get to travel china, australia and around the uk if you want.
Its not for every one, nor a get rich quick scheme0 -

Here's a typical Mystery Shopper "bravado" claim
Yes you CAN get to those places:
I've been to Jamaica, New York, Chicago, Durham Tees  mostly Business and sometimes First Class
BUT
You have to have a good score and 20 jobs under your belt to be even considered:-along with 100's of others. It's hardly "if you want"
You will pay for these trips as the "allowance" is minimal.
Both reports are lengthy and the proof readers picky
They are not a regular occurence (30 jobs per 3 months shared between 1500 applicants.)
Didn't know that Prostitution was a Mystery shopping scenarioIve made £350-600 some weeks doing it.
Seriously
Specialised (read very rare and you have to be in the "clique") jobs can get you this kind of money:- But you have to work hard and long for it and be in a unique position to get offered them.
Kudos if you are there
The majority of newbies will never get there.0
