Do you email only for complaints?

For my fiances birthday he wanted a new car CD/MP3 thingie (can you tell I'm not techie) We were passing a Halfords, and droipped in on the off chance.. Got the stereo, had all the bits, and fitted within half an hour. To me that's wonderful customer service!

I have emailed Halfords customer services thanking them for a wonderful service. Too many people complain, but how many email a company for excellent service? I have emailed two or three companies thanking them in the past-but wondered if it was just me or do other of you good folks do the same? :)

If i've had good customer service I will email the company to tell them and I have bad service i'll email them.

In a previous job I used to get passed a lot of complaints about people in my team but very rarely compliments about them. It used to make me chuckle when I took people to one side because they were convinced they were going to get a telling off but it made their day at work a bit happier telling them someone was pleased with the way they were treated.

Coincidence - I just sent a 'thank you for great service' email before coming onto the forum. (Terrys Fabrics) It's not something I do very often, life gets in the way and then the moment's past. Must try harder!

In my job at a small company we probably receive and send more compliments than we do complaints...

Although, it's not entirely altruistic, as we only deal Business to Business and having our company name splashed about on testimonials is good marketing!

Totally agree Hoyles! Is it indicative of todays society that when I -for example- get taken into my Ops Managers office, the first thing I say is 'what have I done now?'. When it's a 'you're doing a grand job'-it makes it a happier day! I know most of us were brought up to be polite, and say thank you face to face...it just piqued my curiousity to ask how many people thank a 'faceless corporation' :)

Yep I email in compliments, with the staff member's name on if I've got it - if it helps the decent ones get a leg up in their career then it's better they get ahead rather than the couldn't care less crew. I've also gone to buy items, got the details from one staff member and made sure when we went back to complete the purchase we got the same guy so they got their sales target since they were the one who'd done the initial helping etc.

I've done the same thing - if they've been helpful and I've simply gone away to consider my options before making a decision, I always go back to the original staff member for their commisions/targets.

Recently I dealt with a lovely staff member at Tefal who was incredibly polite, courteous and helpful. She went beyond what was required of her to help us obtain a replacement pan set and I asked her on the phone if there was an email address I could send praise to - she was gobsmacked and so genuinely thankful and happy, because it meant that she could put my notes directly on her report which would be read at the end of the week by her boss :)

I also called Tesco when we had a problem with one of our deliveries and snuck in a compliment about the delivery man because he'd been particularly polite, friendly and helpful - and got the phone operator to add it to his feedback!
  • I don't really complain at all..... I sent Andrex an email about their TP and got some vouchers. :) I have so much TP at the moment, it's fab.
