ihave a sky+ box and it makes a noise it seems like a fan is turning inside of box.It starts and stops even when tv is switched off. it is quite loud should this be the box is 8 wweks old

The noise you are hearing is the hard disk drive spinning.
It is continuous when the box is on and intermittent when the box is in standby.
The spongy rubber feet on the box are supposed to minimise the noise, you may be unlucky and have a noisy disk.That gum you like is coming back in style.0
