Hi, someone just asked hubby if he had is cilot refund yet from his detachment, what is this? I know it's the council tax thing, but what's this about a partial refund if he has been deployed, he hasn't got it yet............
Reason I ask, is he is so meh about these things, when it comes to paperwork and chasing things up that he is entitled to, so at least if I know what it is I can pester him to contact JPA :rotfl:
Thanks all and hi, when I googled it, cilot brought me here!

CILOT is Charges In Leiu of Council Tax.
With normal council tax, if your husband was away you could claim a reduction to 75%. I am unsure if this is the case with this claim, but i would not expect to see any of the cash soon but instead maybe 2-3months later.0 -
Oh ok, so we are not paying regular council tax as we are in MQ, so he pays cilot out of his wages, will have to look into it I guess.
It's the guy he replaced originally asked him if he had his rebate yet, that's what started me looking into it, thanks:)0 -
I think it's a one-off payment of something like £140 for a 6-month deployment, but don't know if it's paid automatically or has to be claimed. I'm sure someone else will know.
Just found this: http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceNews/DefencePolicyAndBusiness/CouncilTaxReliefExtendedToAllTroopsOnOperations.htmMortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
Its done by unit HR, if he's been on ops recently get him to go see them and sort it out0
