Car tax query

We've got a 2000 citroen estate, and the cost of the car tax is £190 for a year.
This is obviously based on the fact it is older and will have poor emissions.
We are running it with biodiesel which should have really low emissions, so can the car tax amount be challenged, by getting a test done for example?
Thanks in advance.

Highly unlikely I would say, the fact that it is a year 2000 probably means the road tax is actually less than a like for like newer model, not more.

The citroen is 2 litre diesel estate for £190 and we're about to buy a fiat stilo 1.9 litre diesel estate for about £120 so I think they assume the older cars have poor emissions which is what they are taxing.
Not sure how like for like those cars are though.

Many cars that are year 2000 or earlier, are far less to tax than their newer like for like counterparts, so I am not sure why the Fiat is showing up at less.

Of course they are not like for like, so that could be the reason.

I have registered my car as alternative fuel as its petrol/lpg. I don't think this option/facility is available for diesels though. The discount isn't that great tbh and as ever the government are working to slim the discount down further.
