Gas and electric meters fleecing us
Options
Hi All,
can any one give me some advice? We have Gas and electric meters; taking repayments of 15 and 10 gbp per week respectively. However with the current weather these are fleecing us, and we're totally skint.
We are putting at least 35 pounds a week on the gas and 25 - 30 pounds per week on the electric. As you can imagine this is having a massive impact on our finances with total spend of aprox 260 pound per month on these two alone.
I heard that we get these removed.... is this true?
Please help. any advise much appreciated... Thecurl

Normally pre payment meters are installed either because the occupier wants one ie say flats or because the energy company installed them because occupier/ or previous occupier owed money, each time you use a card it take so much off a debt off plus so much for usage hence why you not getting a lot for your money because you may owe some debt, that debt needs paying off0

Now the warmer weather is/will shortly be with us, the amount of gas you consume should be less.
You do seem to be using a large amount of electricity. See if you can reduce this amount of consumption. Your supplier should be able to give you some advise on how to reduce consumption if necessary.
You could also enquire if it would be possible for you to reduce the rate you repay your existing debt, if necessary.
I doubt you'll be able to get rid of the prepayment meters for a long time, if ever, as they appear to have been put in to recover a debt you previously accrued and failed to repay.
Anyone that might agree would first want the initial debt repaid in full plus they would probably expect a substantial security deposit."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Which supplier are you with for both. Also if you dont have any debt with the supplier on the meter then you could shop around for a cheaper supplier.
We are also on a card and key meter and we put in around £10 gas a week and £5 to £7 electric in a week and we have the heating on alot and use alot of electric.
We also asked about getting our meters removed when we first moved in but they wanted £500 per meter to change them to a normal type

If you take your quoted £15 repayment from your gas spend of £35 then you are using around £20 of gas, this while not very high for this time of year could be reduced.
we are currently using about £15pw and our boiler is quite old.
£20pw on electric is high and should be reduced we use £10 .
we are on prepayment for both0
