Well we all know there is no real shortage, just ammunition for the VI's as there's nothing else really they can use0

approx 70% of the UK houses are owner occupied - i won't let a little fact get in the way of your sound bite though
I find it hard to beleive that during a huge increase in rentals this number stays the same...
Or maybe the number is not actually correct, does anyone know how it is worked out? Or who works this out?0 -
I find it hard to beleive that during a huge increase in rentals this number stays the same...this is more up to date.Home ownership in England fell for the second year in a row last year, sliding to its lowest level since 1998, according to government statistics. The number of owner-occupiers dropped by 83,000 to 14.54 million, taking the rate of home ownership down to 69.8%.

What I don'y get is why people classed as "bears" do not want new housing to be built to bring down house prices.
Yet the people who are "bulls" do?
You would think it would be the other way round. Any reasons why this is the case? If I was looking to buy I would be saying we do need to build more houses.
I don't see how people think prices have got to where they are unless there was constrictive supply in lots of areas near jobs.
Even if you use the "easy credit" argument most still only purchased one house to live in.
Why are prices not a 3.5X income if supply is not a problem, meaning easy credit has been removed for 2 years now?0 -

Which bear is this then?
Any proof of what you are saying?
New buildings take years. Then they are priced way to high. Are packed in like sardines. And the cost to us all is immense.
Doesn't mean people don't want them....just means there is plenty of stuff we can do in the meantime.
Personally, I see it this way, the only reason bulls go on about new builds so much is cus they know it aint happening for a long time.0 -

I have been on many threads that they do not believe there is any housing shortage at all because there a 1/2m empty and another 1/2m on right move.
Your emotive argument is poor graham.
New builds are not only for buying they are for HA's to rent out. Some will never afford to buy but having a rentable housing stock is "affordable housing" for them and very much the point of the argument.
Unless you think the idea of having no option to buy or rent is acceptable?0 -
What? So you say that about bears not wanitng new builds. You get asked who this is. Tell me to calm down. And then quote something nothing to do with new builds to prove your point?
In your head, not wanting new builds = saying "there is no shortage"?0
