With British Gas, the first 670 kWh per quarter are charged at the higher price. The rest wil be charged at tier 2.

Essentially you are paying a standing charge of £11 per month plus 3.4p for every kWh.

If you are getting five days of five and a half hours heat for £20 in these temperatures I would say that is pretty good going - that's only £120 per month.
  • so after the use of 670kwh i get charged at rate 2 per kwh , could i ask 1 thing does it make any difference if i top up £20 a time or would it be wise to top up say the £120 in one go as after the £20 has been used does it reset back to rate 1 and i have to use 670kwh to get rate to again , the reason i ask is over xmas i put £40 in and it lasted a whole week and a half being on over 10 hours a day now £20 only last for 5 days at 5 and a half hours sorry for being so confusing

    cheers

It doesn't matter how you top up.

The tier 1 charge is applied pro-rata per day based on consumption ... with a bit of jiggery-pokery should you not use all the tier 1 units in any one day, but limited to the amount specified every quarter.

The way to make your money go further is to change tariff (if a cheaper one is available with a different (or the same) supplier.) Check a comparison site such as uswitch.

Worrying about two tier tariffs is not going to make a difference. If you don't get it, ignore it - it doesn't matter.

(For example, if you switch to Ebico and have a low consumption your bills would be more than halved.)

    Hi,

Not sure if i can help here but i have been on British Gas Prepayment Meters for Gas and Electric from Sept last year in our flat and i signed up to the Online Click Package with British gas to save a bit more and my rates in my area for these are below

    Gas
    Screen (9) - 07.991p
    Screen (10) - 03.266p

I found it was a nightmare trying to get the tarif for the click package sent to my meter but got it sorted after 2 months and have been happy so far.

I think the newer rates are a little lower as well from this month due to the new rates from BG

    What area are you in?

Edit: Here is a link to the rates etc for Standard and Click. These are the new rates from BG from 4th Feb http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy/our-products/pay-as-you-go.html
