were currently in the process of transfering our gas/elec supply from british gas to e.on we have recived our final gas bill and there is a charge of £70 for canceling so does this mean we will get the same charge for canceling oue elec supply with them as well??
i think this an outrages charge how can they charge that, the bloke from e.on if there was a charge it would be around £30 but he wasnt to sure if they charged or not which i found hard to belive.
does anyone no if they can charge this or if there is anyway we can get out of paying it?

Early exit fees apply to certain tariffs. As Eon says, that is typically about £30 per fuel.
What tariff were you on with BG?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
At least British Gas will not be charging you an extra 20% for your final bill on top of their cancellation fees which is what will happen when you come to switch away from E-on in the future.0

its duel fuel capped until 2010 as far as i no,e.on said there is no cancellation fee with them because you don't then have the freedom to choose or that's what it says anyway0

But until when in 2010? Most lock in tariffs are 12m, when did you commence it? If less than the minimum contract, then they're quite entitled to penalise you, as you're in breach of contract.
Tariffs without lock ins will generally be more expensive, it's quid pro quo-you stay with them at least a year, you'll pay less. If you want to leave in 3 months, you'll pay more.
Some e-on tariffs will have lock-ins, others won't.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
sounds like you came across a good salesman. I hope the quote he gave you was in writing and based on your annual consumption.0

Everything that is wrong with this country.
You have been taking to a salesman who will say almost anything for a sale.
May I suggest cancelling the switch and then switch to them when you term finishes. His Heart Proved He Was A RedSuarez, SuarezWe Bought The Lad From AmsterdamWe Know He's Not a Chelsea Fan.Fernando Torres = El Judas0 -
its allready been transferd, but how can they charge £70 to cancel £30 i sort of understand but £70 thats taking !!!!0

No it's not. Standard cancellation varies from £20 per fuel to £70 per fuel. If you accepted a bargain (maybe risky) tariff then both the supplier and you are taking a gamble. For you to be able to swan off willy-nilly is not acceptable. £100 for a dual switch is high but your tariff probably made it worth the price - have you bothered to calculate how much money you have saved with the tariff?0

I think "penalty" means it's supposed to hurt.

Hi steelcitysurfer,
Currently our FixOnline v5 tariff has a cancellation fee of £30; this is £10 for electricity and £20 for gas, if you are electricity only it’s a flat £10 charge.
We do have other tariffs where the cancellation fee maybe different, let me know the name of the tariff and I can just double check this information for you.
As has been mentioned we don’t apply discounts to final bills, so if you are ever expecting a final bill from us, try and arrange the transfer to coincide with a bill to minimise the effect this can have.
We have discussed cancellation fees on this site in the past, and the terms and conditions say we may apply the cancellation fee. As I have always said, assume you will be charged this cancellation fee and if, when you come to leave, you aren’t, you have then benefited to the sum of £30.
