Changing from pp meters to credit meters
Options
I've just moved into a new house. It has gas and electric meters which are pre pay. I would like credit meters as I have a xxxxxx which can sometimes make it difficult to get to the shops to top-up, plus I can get a better tariff with credit meters.
Scottish Power have said they will waive the 12 month wait to change the meters, but they still want £150 deposit (refundable) as well as £110 (non-refundable) to change the meters. I explained that I have a xxxxxx, combined with the fact that I have no furnishings/fittings, and that it is a bit difficult to lay my hands on that kind of money now.
Anyway, will any other utility company change the meters to credit meters free of charge to get my business?
Thanks

possibly, they may choose to run a credit check first. you could call and ask, but you need to remember it can take 6-8 weeks to change over.0

I don't know about changing PP to credit but EDF are changing my E7 to single rate for free after I've been with them 28 days.0

Some suppliers will offer to replace your PPM with a credit meter for free, (subject to meeting their acceptance criteria) but its quite common for them to request a 12 month refundable deposit (with interest)
You may be able to avoid paying a security deposit if you agree to pay monthly by DD, but ultimately it will usually depend on their credit risk assessment of you."Now to trolling as a concept. .... I moved into a new address with gas and electric prepayment meters recently. NPower were the supplier. I have changed supplier to Ebico. They have agreed to change my prepayment meters over to quarterly and they will be coming out to do this work on 15 Feb. I did have to pass their credit check and agree to pay by DD. I had been with Ebico for around a year at previous address and paid using payment card every fortnight (according to the electric and gas I actually used in each two week period), so my accounts were in order. However, I know I have an extremely bad credit rating so go figure....0

Have you had your £12 credit voucher for ebico gas supplied through a PPM? You won't get that with a credit meter.
By paying monthly by DD, you are effectively paying monthly in advance (actually, now the cold period is almost over, you should be starting to actually build up credit on your account. i.e. paying more than you are consuming) so some suppliers will allow a credit meter, as they have very early indication of you failing to pay (i.e. a bounced monthly DD)"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
