    It is very common.
If i has private info to sort out i would ask to speak in private, not many people do though.
HSBC only discuss things by appointment in our local branch but our main one is very `in oublic` and quite intimidating!

Because it's actually a very surprisingly low number of people who use internet banking.

According to the Lloyds Banking Group web site (here), "more than 3 million Lloyds Banking Group customers bank online".

Compare this figure to the total number of LBG customers. According to this BBC News article, Lloyds TSB has about 16 million customers, and HBOS has around 22 million.

I am really amazed that the amount of people using on line banking is so low and would never have guessed this. What you say does explain why branches are so busy.

Personally I could not be without it, a lot of people still doubt the security.

Out of the 16m and 22m customers you refer to for Lloyds Banking Group, there is a big overlap, and many of the rest have inactive accounts.

My wife and I have several Halifax Cardcash accounts from donkeys' years ago. Doubtless so do millions of others. They have nil balances, but they are still open.

FWIW we DO have internet access but only because we set that up for other accounts, not the ancient ones.
  • It is a good point about how few people use online banking, I can't understand it myself.

I do regularly visit branches for the simple reason that I run a car boot stall at a market, buy stuff while I'm there, sell it and want to bank the money I make. Unfortunately at present there is no way of paying in cash using online banking. I pay in using the quick deposit cash machines and very rarely go to a counter but they are always heaving.
