Hi, can anyone help me with some informaiton on Fuerteventura
My Girlfriend and I are looking at going to Fuerteventura for a holiday in September. However were not sure where to stay. We want somewhere lively enough to have a few shops some bars and discos but not to the point where its like falaraki, kavos or Ibiza.
Corralejo i'm told is the busiest resort, however I've heard conficting reports on wether that is the case. Does any one know what its really like here?
Also I was told that Cala de fuste would suit us, however i've also been told that its really quiet there with nothing to do!!
As you can tell i'm not completely confused!
Any information would be very appreciated!

Have been to both Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste and I would opt to return to Corralejo any day out of the two. Corralejo is busier than Caleta de Fuste but in my opinion it's just about busy enough to keep you occupied for your two weeds in the sun. If I was returning to Caleta de Fuste I think I would feel the need to hire a car and visit other resorts.0

I have just booked for September 4 of us going to the Riu Olivia Beach . Been to Lanzarote many times and I know it can be a bit windy but really looking forward to it.
My son went in the Novemeber and he said the wind wasnt a great problem.
If anyones been ...is it cheaper to book a transfer at around £80 return for all 4 of us or just jump in a taxi?If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
Someone on HT said it was around 30-35 euros each way to Corralejo by taxi,or about £60 return with https://www.transferstore.com"Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0

People do say that it's always windy in Feurteventura, but it's never been very windy when i've been there, perhaps i've just been lucky.0

I know the island well and have a property there.
IT Tim - I would think Corralejo would be the right place for you as it has good nightlife but don't worry it is no Falaraki.. It is generally a very chilled out place. I don't believe that the island is any windier than any other Canary Island and when it's hot you need & are grateful when there is a breeze. I would say the climate is something like the Carribean.
Savapenny. Re Taxi or Transfer to Riu Beach (nice choice in fab location) Riu Beach should be the first drop off point as you come into Corralejo so it is not a bad journey but I don't know how much a taxi fare would be. As you have been quoted £80, have you thought about hiring a car for a week which would not be much more than that? It is really worth it so you can visit places like the lagoons in El Cotillo (about half an hour by car) on the other side of the island. The lagoons are protected by a reef so you have flat calm water perfect for swimming & snorkelling & a complete contrast to the sea at Corralejo. From Riu Oliva Beach you will also need to get cab or bus into Corralejo as it is not within walking distance of the town.
Will revert if I can get any info re taxi fares.0 -
Have been to both Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste as well, Corralejo is far better than costa caleta as it is now known,Its larger, more of everything great for getting over to Lanzarote easily etc.Never been down bottom of the island but its supposed to have lovely beaches and a couple of small resorts with large multi national hotels.
Caleta de Fuste maybe OK for a weeks stay, its purpose built around a man made bay, but the flight path to the airport is straight over the top of it and unless you're a plane spotter it gets a bit tedious after a while although night flights are not allowed.

Caleta de Fuste is a very low key resort, more suited towards families with very young children, due to the gently sloping man made beach there. Travelled 5 years on the trot there when the kids were very young. There really isn't very much to do, even during a 7 day stay, we felt the need to hire a car and visit Correlejo.
Correlejo is much busier, with lots of bars restaurants, shops and a couple of nightclubs. The biggest attraction has to be the sand dunes, they run for miles with pure white sands. From Correlejo, you can also catch the ferry across to neighbouring Lanzarote, calling into Playa Blanca - again - another low key resort.
Another place to visit if you are hiring a car is Jandia to the south of the island which has the best beaches. It is about a 45-60 mins drive away, past the Islands Zoo, and the beaches there take your breath away. You have to be careful with the weather though, go on a windy day and it can be torture being whipped by the sand.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

I holidayed in Correlejo and the nightlife was reasonable. We drove down to Jandia for the day - boy was it windy! I think the southern end of the island is much windier than the north. Just a little tip - if you dont like heights then don't drive the mountain route to Jandia, I still have nightmares about that road!0
