I spotted this on my tax renewal notice that I received today.

It would appear that £10 of it will be going to subsidise new car buyers.:mad:0 -
What are the ‘first-year rates’?
From April 2010 anyone buying a new car will pay a different rate of Vehicle Tax for the first tax disc. From the second tax disc onwards they will then pay the standard rate. This will send a stronger signal to the buyer about the environmental implications of their car purchase and will only apply to new cars, not already registered cars.
ive taken this from your link, apparently £10 a year to someone who can afford to buy a brand new car every year is a "strong signal" about the environmantal impact thier new purchase is having on the planet. :rotfl:...work permit granted!0 -

Indeed, I really cannot grasp the thinking behind this one.:mad:0 -
Yep £400 saving over the cars I had last year. = 8 tanks of diesel = 5000 miles.0

Is it just me or is that phrase not exceptionally patronising and insulting?0
