"Free Message" Debt Reduction Phone Call
Comments

Getting this call twice a day. Its very annoying. The thing is, we live in a new build house, have only had the phone number for two months and registered for TPS immediately. How did they get the number?
And how do we stop the calls. In the short term am just not going to bother answering. If at first you do succeed, try not to look too surprised0 -
I've been getting calls from 0844 6869217 with a recorded message about some government initiative to do with writing off 100% of debt in 12 months. Message talks about a Debt Relief Order in a tone that makes it sound like waving a magic wand over debts to make them go away.
Absolutely no idea where they got my number from. Very frustrating because you can't complain about a company when you don't know who they are.0 -
Two days running I have received an automated call claiming to be a public information announcement and instructing me not to hang up. They claim if I press '2' I can see if I qualify to eliminate 100% of any debt I have. The number calling is 08448 733571
I'm rather annoyed - I keep getting notification that I've won a cruise via this media method too!
How can I stop this?? Any helpful hints gratefully received, however I've done all the obvious things like being ex-directory and signing up for the 'no nuisance' calls stuff.0 -
The ones I get "National Awareness Message" are from 08435400357. About once per day. :mad:0

I don't get any, thanks to the Truecall device that I purchased a few months ago. Not a single unwanted phone call since then.
(I used to get a few a week). 0 -
I also have a Truecall. It's fantastic.
But it doesn't prevent these recorded messages coming through to my mobile phone. Does anyone know a way to track this company down? I have the same message as others: "the is a free call, please do not hang up" and then it goes on to talk about debt. At the end of the call there's the option to press 2 to speak to someone (which I've not yet done). If I don't press anything, the line just cuts off.
The Truecall has been an absolute life saver - but this is the first time I've started getting spam calls to my mobile. I've had my number for 10+ years - perhaps that means I'm lucky I've not had this sort of problem before, but I'm loathe to change my number just because some 'company' has gotten hold of it and is now calling me without my consent. There must be a way to stop this?0 -
I have once again had this call this morning and having had just about enough I pressed 2.
I got through to a company called debt reduction uk...spoke to a person who asked if i pressed 2 because im in debt? I advised no, i pressed 2 because im p***ed off with keep getting these calls. HE advised ok ill take you off call list bye - i shouted wait a minute ive not finished yet!!! he said well ive advised you ill take you off the call list what more do you want, want to shout at me do you?!!! I was shocked - I asked for his name, he advised peter jones (yeah right) who when probed advised he was based in southampton office. obnoxious little get he was! he advised he was the manager when I asked for the manager...how often do managers answer incoming calls???
He said that he would remove me from call list, i said i had been told this previously yet im still getting calls.
I asked where he got my number from, he advised a marketing database that has all the mobile numbers in the uk, i asked - so did you even know if i am in debt - he advised no.
It is ridiculous. I have recently cleared all of debts (yey!!) and just stopped getting calls from capital blummin' one and now i get these!!! its ridiculous!!
I have done a search for this company and cant find anything whatsoever.
There really should be a law against it! You have TPS for landlines but there isnt anything for mobile numbers is there? Soooooooo irritating! Grrrrr!!! :mad:0 -
They do not; he is a liar. The company who called you are probably based in India; their call centre drones are told to say they are in Southampton because saying they are in Mumbai gets the phone call immediately terminated by their victim.savedabundle wrote: »I got through to a company called debt reduction uk...spoke to a person who asked if i pressed 2 because im in debt? Quite. He is a liar and you will get more calls, perhaps from a different company or another Indian call centre. He said that he would remove me from call list, i said i had been told this previously yet im still getting calls.

Yes, there is. Just use TPS.There really should be a law against it! You have TPS for landlines but there isnt anything for mobile numbers is there?

8. Will registering with TPS reduce the receipt of recorded messages?
No. Organisations that use recorded phone message to try and sell or promote their products or business have to comply with the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003. These say that marketers who leave recorded phone messages must obtain the prior consent of the subscriber before they can make that call. Where a subscriber receives a recorded phone message they haven't agreed to there may have been a breach of the regulations.
If you are receiving recorded messages and have not given prior permission, you can complain directly to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), whose details are under the 'Useful links' section on the left hand menu. Unfortunately many of the companies that send these types of recorded messages are based overseas which makes it difficult to take enforcement action against them.0
