Current account number of months history online

My bank (A & L) allows me to look back over 9 months of history.

It seems to me that it would be more useful to see 13 months so that you could compare annual renewals and expenditure year on year.

I asked them about this and they said that no one is interested in transactions more than 265 days old and they suggested printing out the statements which seems to me to a backward step.

Do others have a view on this and what transaction history do your banks provide online?

I am with HSBC and can go back as far as six years, although I do not use the feature a great deal it is still good to have. Recently I looked to see how much I was paying for my mobile phone bill a few years back.

I think that the 'proper' banks i.e the big four have better all round service and would probably provide a longer statement history.

I agree that nine months is not long enough but there again what do you expect from A&L?. To make matters worse they are now part of Santander. Having a lot of statements in your house could also pose a security threat if heaven forbid you were burgled. All the best.

Lloyds account holders can go back 7.5 years and download the required info, though only the previous 150 transactions can be seen on the online screen.

Nationwide Building Society has 6 years of statements available on line in pdf format to view or download.
The last 15 months transactions can be viewed on screen.
  • Barclays only offer about 6 weeks online...one of the reasons I'm going elsewhere
  • You don't have to print them - download them into a money management software programme.

Yes I could do that but then it's a chore that has to be done before the online transactions disappear.

You want jam on it now.

Just out of curiosity how many times have you had to access old statements since you started this thread? :D

I like to look back over the last 12 months every year.
I have now switched to First Direct and could not be happier.

I want to see everything back to the year dot. I mean, what's information technology for? Printing out paper copies and filing them is rubbish.

You don't have to print hard copies - just save them as PDFs. Some banks offer statements as PDFs. For any bank that doesn't, they can be saved with a PDF 'printer' such as PDFCreator.
