castle wedding venues in scotland?

hi guys just wondering if anyone knew of any relatively cheaps wedding venues that are or look like castles. We have found one at gretna (thanks steph) which is about 1600 for the wedding ceromony including fees and basic pictures but i was wondering if there was anything in more central scotland that you have heard of? We've had a look at ones online but they all seem really expensive. Were just looking for a place for the ceromony just now so it doesnt have to be intact. I know this is a bit of a long shot but just incase anyone knew anything.

  • Have you thought about Linlithgow Palace. They have a room called the Undercroft, it makes for a very nice intimate ceremony. Just looked on the Historic Scotland Website and it reads like the Palace is a venue for ceremony and catering only but I have been to ceremony only in the Undercroft so maybe worth a wee email? The grounds make for some fantastic photos
  • having a look now thanks

There are quite a few Historic Scotland castles in the central belt that do weddings. Two of my favourites would be Castle Campbell and Dryburgh Abbey. Torphichen Preceptory also definitely does weddings. These three are all lovely buildings with a wonderful atmosphere and lots of scope for fantastic photography. Check the 'Hire a venue' section of the Historic Scotland Website for more details.
  • thanks cherrub ive had a look and they are georgous places my only concern is that they dont stop other visitors from coming in during your ceromony but i suppose thats what happens if you get married in a public place. Im going to send of and ask what kind of prices places have.
  • my cousin got married in Stirling Castle and it was gorgeous
    - hope that helps

get in contact with the woman from historic scotland. they are so helpful.
we were going to get married on the inchmaholme island in the priory ruins in the middle of the lake of menteith. we had provisionally booked it but we went to look at it on a day when it was raining and there was no shelter on the island. i was heartbroken as i really wanted to get married there, but i was too scared to take the risk in case it rained on our wedding day.

I was also going to mention Dundonald Castle. I was at a wedding last August, it was a lovely day, it is partially ruined but great for photos and really romantic. We all went on to the Marine Hotel in Troon which is also beautiful.
