Ridiculous question about baby seats...!

Was chatting with a new parent last week about this, just remembered and thought I'd post:
He was apparently agonizing over which side of his car's back seat to place the baby seat...
" Are side-on crashes more likely from lane merges and junctions to the left, or roundabouts and crossroads from the right?? " OR
" In a worst case crash, would you more likely instinctivly swerve to save yourself, or best to sacrifice yourself to save OH and DS on passenger side? " etc.
Lol He knows how ridiculous the questions are, but had def been thinking hard about them!
I guess I'm more interested in whether anyone else thinks like this, rather than actual answers to the questions...

I did wonder which was the safer side when DS was small; I don't think I ever got a definite answer. Now he's 3, I have him in a seat behind the passenger side - simply because it's safer for a child to get out onto the pavement rather than the road. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0

The safest would be to avoid these instances by not pulling out in front of people.0 -

I really don't think that his question was ridiculous, I'm not a parent but surely you are going to think about the safest place for the most important little person in the world to you!2009 wins: Cadburys Chocolate Pack x 6, Sally Hansen Hand cream, Ipod nano! mothers day meal at Toby Carvery! :j :j :j :j0

Well yeah, I understand the asking. But it must make such a tiny difference if anything!
Js_Other_Half makes a point I hadn't even thought of - even if behind the driver was safest, you're probably still far better off getting them in and out of a car from the pavement!0 -
I would say behind the passenger seat , which would aid him not to crash more . As he can take a glimpse round to see little one is okay . Whereas if little one was placed behind him driving he would have to turn his full body whilst driving to look at child when not using the mirror { therefore } no eyes on the road .
In general the obvious would be the side nearest the pavement

When i just had the 1 we put him behind the drivers seat for a couple of reasons 1.in the case of an accident i knew we'd both be on the same side so swerve acordingly.
2. i could see him in the mirror.
now i have 3 kids so cars full!
pavement i think makes no difference depends which side of road you park on, if you reverse into a parking spot etc I always aim to get the baby out of the pavement side but depends on the parking spot.0 -

it is illegal to park facing against the flow of traffic so if you want to get baby out pavement side you need to put baby behind passenger seat
