The paid for gatwick lounge is the Servisair lounge. Personally I wouldn't bother with the lounge in Gatwick North. The terminal is quite small and is actually a pleasant terminal.

There is a play area near the Boots (depending on if you kids would be interested in that!) which overlooks the runways. On the second floor there are a raft of restuarants and snacking places. The BAA website will give a floor plan of the terminal.

I used the Gatwick north servisair lounge recently, when Egg were offering a 75% discount. Even then, I wouldn't say it was particularly good value as it's very small and the 'snacks' are very limited. (Prepacked muffins, bendy cheese, biscuits, plain crisps and nuts). If you think you might want a couple of glasses of wine / beer etc each then you might get VFM but, of course, this may not apply to your kids! The terminal itself (as pin has said above) is pretty pleasant and quite a lot better than many other airports that I've been too. Worth also bearing in mind that there is no view from the lounge, no departure screen information and no 'buzz' which you might miss as part of your holiday experience.

That play area looks good. Let them get rid of some energy before the flight to Cyprus. I've seen children in the BA lounge and they look really bored.

BTW Some of the gates are a long walk, especially the ones over the new bridge. So check your gate number and time to the gate when in the terminal and allow for it, I've seen people on the plane who obviously had to run for it, not a relaxing start.

Mind you the BA lounge does have a little play area for the younger kids. However probably not much use to the OP.
