i need to buy one - are places like comet as cheap / good as anywhere, or are there reliable online retailers that might offer better deals?

ours is on its last legs too - had it repaired 8 months ago as it had leaked the coolant (apparently not as good as the old coolant which was bad for the ozone layer). Annoyingly its only about 3 years old and cost a fair bit.
Does anyone have any reliability data for fridge freezers?

Does John lewis include a 5 year guarantee or does it cost extra like an extended warranty? (one opened near us a few months ago).

JL offer 2 yr warranty on white goods apart from their own brand which comes with a 3 yr warranty.
  • A friend has just bought a frdge/freezer from Next electricals. It was a reasonable price and extended warranty was £3.49 a month.
  • What I like to do is go look in comet / currys etc at what they have instore, make a note of a few you like and then at home do a price comparision to see where you can get them the cheapest.

you could try comet clearance. they have shop soiled fridge freezers, where they've maybe been on display but no longer have the box etc, you have to bid on product but prices can be considerably cheaper than buying brand new boxed goods.

Not sure if it's any help, but the last freezer I purchased was from Electrical123.com . This is the cheap appliance selling arm of co-op .

    2% cashback through Quidco.

However apart from being competitive on price, unlike many retailers who will fleece you £25+ for delivery, Electrical123 offer free delivery as standard. They only charge an extra £10 if you want a Saturday delivery or to take an old appliance away!

I found them reliable, helpful and can highly recommend them based on my limited experience.

  • I was going to suggest JL too, dont they price match aswel? Good luck finding a fridge/freezer!!

While shopping around have a look at Dixons website.

I recently was looking for a cooker, Currys 229.00, 24 hours later it was £249
so had a look at Dixon (which is part of the currys, PC world group) and it was
on there at £229. Someone on the boards gave me a discount code so i eventually got it for £217.

Worth having a look and asking on here for any discount codes.

    And Dixons give free delivery

Whatever you do dont buy BEKO - we had one for 15mths so just out of warranty and the gas escaped from it. Beko would take nothing to do with it so we ended up dumping it. Complete waste of money.

If you had pushed a bit further you could have got some sort of recompense - under the EU directive the guarantee period is 2 years.
Not sure of all the ins and outs but there has been threads on here about it.

Maybe worth a google for future reference.
