Air Turquoise

This is a small start-up French no-frills airline, based near Reims, in the Champagne region in France.

They've currently got good deals like 73 euros (£50) return from Luton to Reims (their only British route), including all extra charges. This seems to be particularly good considering it is peak season.

After reading about them in a newspaper article, I thought I'd try them out. Was a small propeller plane, about 50 seats, only about a third full!

The onboard service is quite good and personalised, the smartly-dressed staff make eye contact and treat you with respect, a bit like with Air France. There's no food available but the seats are comfortable and they give you a (free) cup of water.

The shuttle bus to the centre of Reims takes about an hour but is free (subsidised by the local authority I think).

If you want to go, act quickly, I suspect they might not last very long if they're not even managing to half-fill their planes! Don't blame me if you get stranded if they go bust (cf EUJet, Duo Airlines..)!

The Champagne region is an attractive region to visit, and Reims is worth going to, for its cathedral.

Oh no! I went to book another flight and found that they have just gone into liquidation.

I hope no-one booked anything on the strength of what I wrote above..

You might be interested to know that SNCF (French trains) are busy working on a TGV link to the East of France, drastically cutting journey times from Paris to Reims and Strasbourg (amongst other places). I think Paris - Reims will be less than an hour once it's completed next year.
