18 month old TV keeps turning itself on

Hi,

I've got a pretty cheap, 22" LCD TV from 'Logik' ( Whoo? ).

It's around 18 months old, from Currys, and has recently started a really annoying habit of turning itself on from standby - usually in the middle of the night!

( OT I know I shouldn't leave it on standby, but it only seems to draw around 1w idle - so for now, it's a lot easier than fiddling with the extension leads behind the TV stand! )

Is this fairly common with LCD tellys, and if not, would Currys be likely to repair / replace it??

Comments

  • of course its not common !!!!!!! take it back immediately and explain the problem - they are sure to replace it.

I had a goodmans stereo that used to do exactly the same thing :)
It would turn on in the middle of the night at full volume! Worst part was it was next to my bed! In the end i had to turn it off at the socket. Looks like you are stuck with that option - sorry!

I have a Panasonic Viera and it sometimes turns itself off and onto standby. It doesn't happen all the time and I only need to turn it back on and it's okay again. I still have 3 years of a 5yr guarantee left on it so if it gets worse i'll see to it.

I've already had a new colour tube (don't think it's exactly that but it's whatever it is that plasma's have). The TV was under a year old. The local shop I bought it from ordered the part, took my TV away in the morning and took it back late in the afternoon. I didn't expect that to happen on a TV that cost £1200.

I don't think it matters if your TV is a cheap one or not as the dearer ones can have faults which are just as bad.

How long was your guarantee for?
