How do i add a hd?

I have been given a Maxtor Diamondmax 10 200gb PATA133 as my hd had stopped working but i have to say Im not sure where to start as tried connecting without jumpers but pc wouldnt boot correctly, stayed on the black screen which tells you pc info, Can anyone help me out please?

So now you have still got your original hard drive installed and it's working OK.
You just want to know how to add an additional (secondary) drive.

Set the drive to master, using the settings on the middle right, where it says DiamondMax 10:-


Assuming it's the only drive on the data cable (the data cable is usually gray, and about 2 inches wide), you need to set it as a Master.

Has your old hd stopped working or has the windows os on it stopped working? What does the post(black) screen say?
On the first post screen (black) is/are your hard/drives being seen?
Have you left the "non-working" h/d still installed?
What message does the last post screen say ?
You need to have an os -windows- installed on the h/d ,it's unlikely that windows will work even if it is on the new hard drive as it should be installed with all the other hardware present- but it just might.
