Hi,
Just a bit of advice required please.
I have a car which I have insured. My wife is going to be doing her driving test very soon and due to the price of insurance for new drivers I would like to insure another car for her in my name and have her as a named driver.
Is it possible for me to have 2 different cars insured in my name and can I use my no-claims bonus twice.
How does it work??
Thanks
Daniel

This is technically insurance fraud, the technical term for this is fronting. If you search on google you'll find more information about it. Lots of people do it and get away with it. A sizeable number have not been so lucky though. You can only use no claims bonus on one car, so the benefits may be minimal anyway.
Best arrangement is to have the car insured in her name and to add you as a named driver. That way this should hopefully reduce the cost of the policy. Another thing to look into is multicar policies like those sold by admiral.0 -
As above, it's called fraud. If your wife crashes her car, the insurance company won't pay out for the damage. If she damages someone else or their car they will pay out and then start legal proceedings to recover the money from your wife. Kill someone and you'll have to find alot of money to pay them back.
Just get a car in a very low insurance bracket and build up her no claims bonus, that's what everyone else has to do - the insurance costs will come down very quickly over the first few years.0 -
You can have as many cars as you want all insured by yourself with your wife as a main driver. As long as you declare her as the main driver of the vehicle she will drive on a daily basis.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Wrong, it would only be fronting if you didn't name the wife as the main driver, the policy can be in the husband's name with no problem. You can only use no claims bonus on one car, so the benefits may be minimal anyway.
Wrong, no policy I have taken out in my name has asked whether I have already used my NCB on another policy.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
OP clearly stated wife as named driver, not named as the main driver.
You may well be able to send off proof of NCB, but the insurer's stance is one car only. See http://www.confused.com/guides/motoring/car-insurance/car-insurance-buyers-guide-page-6-no-claims-bonus-explained-2236548060With two cars, a driver will need two lots of NCB - one lot for each car. Drivers can't share a NCB earned on one car between two cars.0 -

How old is your wife? It isn't necessarily the case that her insurance will be massively high - if she was a young man of under 20 it would be, but being female will make it less and being older makes it cheaper too, upto a point.0

My wife is 25. I have got some quotes with her as the named driver, with no no claims bonus and I was pleasantly surprised. I got a quote of £550 but was expecting £1000+ as she has only just passed her test.
I will phone my insurance company and run through a few other options and see if I could have her as a named driver and use my no claims bonus twice.

Wrong, you might want to read your T&C's. You cannot use a NCB built up on 1 car on more than one policy. You can however generate multiple NCB's by insuring multiple cars.0 -

Wrongish
You can use the no claims bonus on more than one vehicle providing the new Insurer are aware of it and are willing to allow it to be used on a second vehicle. Some Insurers actively target second vehicles and will accept the no claims bonus as no claims bonus or will alllow an introductory discount.
The second part of your post is correct though0
