International Money Income??? Best bank

Hi, first post but long time reader; apologies I did search for an answer but maybe the terms are too broad?
I'm due to work in Germany for nine weeks and will be paid via BACS or cheque, it's up to me. I am currently with lloyds tsb and would like to know if there is a better way to recieve my money?
Currently, I believe I will be charged £7 for each transaction via BACs (paid weekly) plus a quite terrible commission & exchange rate. My other option is to take the cheque, cash in Germany change to sterling and keep the money until my return home. I am quite concerned about doing this.
Can anyone recommend a bank account I could sign up for that would not charge or is specialist for this type of transaction. I really don't want to use a money brokering service/western union style nightmare
Thanks!

Could you get paid in the UK in Sterling? If yes, get paid to a Nationwide account and use your debit card to withdraw up to 300Euro free of charge at interbank exchange rate. Alternatively, consider moneybookers. It works a bit like paypal.

Open a Halifax account, then you can receive electronic payments of up to €8000 for free.0
