Building Regulations on New build
Coded
Bought a new build back in December, and have been living here since. There are 3 houses on the street that are the same 'model'.
We have just received a letter today from the builders stating that when they sent the plans for the house to the council for approval they were approved and we were told that the house complied with the building regulations, but we have now been told that after a re-inspection from the Council, that the property doesn't actually comply with building regs due to a fire hazard and that a file door needs to be added in the middle of our landing in order to comply with the building regulations!!
One of the houses has the door already done as it hasn't been sold yet.
The letters says it we dont have to have it done but we wont have a building reg certificate.
We're obviously going to let them put the door in, but we have just finished putting brand new carpets down and surely the one on the landing is going to have to be lifted etc,.
Can we ask for compensation for the inconvenience etc?

It should not be necessary to lift the carpet. I would have thought that a chippie could just remove the strip where the threshold of the new door is going to be fitted.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
