Cheque paid into wrongly named account

It's actually called conversion.
In 99% of cases common sense kicks in and if cheques are for small amounts they will normally be accepted.
Large amounts (say over £100) will be referred to a senior member of staff and a decision made.0 -
I remember when i was a cashier - people use to try and hand in cheques with no names on or missing dates - easy done
but the OP has never come back to explain more0 -

maybe he realised what he did0

:rotfl: .... that was a bit of a damp squib! I was hoping the OP had come back to errrrrrr fight his corner but it seems not.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he sent in a postal credit, didn't provide an account number and presumed that the bank would pay it into the correct payee at the branch.... people don't realise that post is centralised and that there may be a hundred different acount holders with the same name at a particular branch.
Or maybe he was just fibbingJust run, run and keep on running!0 -

One trick I've seen is swapping the digits around, eg. £52.88 instead of £58.28. Sadly happened to me as a cashier although I didn't hear anything about it.0 -
it wasn't always about the figures - it was the "fifty pounds and ten pence" bit - not always done right0

The OP 'hasn't come back' because no one is helping his fairly futile crusade?
I think the cheque which has finished in the wrong account is the one he quotes here? :-

Shame, if its true. But blaming 'the system' isn't going to get his money back. And 'The Cheques Act' ...certainly isn't going to help.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
did think it was odd as he was the payee worried that it had gone into the wrong account, rather than the beneficiary0
-
But he may be concerned because N.Leicester is still chasing the OP for the money.0
