Fence quotes

I've had a couple of quotes to replace a fence between my neighbour's and my house. Both are to remove some panel fencing heavily overgrown with ivy (will need a skip), and replace with close board fencing to a height of 6 feet with an additional 1 foot of trellis on top. The length of the fencing is about 24 feet.

One quoted £310 for materials and £400 labour, he has already done work on my neighbour's garden and lives locally.

Another in is in the next village and quoted £445 plus vat total.

As these are widely different, am wondering what one would normally expect...

Depends on a few things:

Quality of the panels & fencing

The removal (or non removal) of ivy from the ground or if its just cut at ground level.

& whether the remover has access to a bonfire they are "helping" to build for November.

Also are the posts reusable? If not are they going to put in post stakes/spikes or just concrete?

Are the panels treated???

Either way £400 for labour seems steep to me...
