Ticket for contravening white line - advice

My husband just got home and has been pulled over by the police and given a ticket for contravening a white line (T515). He was driving in an overtaking lane that was disapearing and accelerated to overtake the car in front and pull back over.
He was told that his wheel was over the white line and was given a £60 fine, 3 points and asked to show docs at the station. He really doesn't think that he was over the white line and if he was he says it was very, very close.
Just seems really picky. He's been told he can contest the ticket - any advice or ideas? :(

I suspect that the police considered his tactic of accelerating to overtake in a diminishing lane was a dangerous maneouvre. Also the police could also have been of the opininion that he was driving without due care as he was caught in a diminishing lane.

I would suggest that they have been very reasonable under the circumstances as the other offences would have meant a court appearance and my advice would be to pay up and move on...

Contesting a police ticket means appearing before a magistrate, his word against the police.

With no evidence either way - unless the Bib were filming him - who do you think will win? Pay up is my advice.

Thanks for the advice. Fair points - he probably shouldn't have tried to overtake close to the end of the lane. :(

See this every day and it is soooooo annoying, these lanes do not disappear instantly, often there is half mile warning. Maybe he will consider the other drivers who obey the markings and do something radical ::::: like slow down and rejoin the other carriageway.

Lucky it was not for Dangerous Driving.
    any advice or ideas?
Think himself lucky and be thankfull
