Can't see any plants as we are under 6" of snow. Spring?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Spring?????? Spring isn't till the middle to end of March for most planting purposes and even then, that's only down in the south. Here in lowland Scotland spring isn't till early April and we'll still be getting night frosts in mid-May. There's no point in trying to get ahead of your particular area's growing season.Val.0

I'm in North Yorkshire and I've seen lots of snowdrops and some crocuses (croci ?!) poking their little heads up.
We moved in to our new house in November and there is something poking its head up in the garden but don't know what it is, I'm hoping dafs but will have to wait and see. I don't care when the official start of spring or the official growing season is, I'm just happy to see a little bit of life, always cheers me up!0 -
My primroses have been flowering since Christmas, and my crocuces heads are out :j0

Talking of Spring. Most say it starts end of March. Surly the seasons are split into 4 as follows Spring Mar, Apr, May. Summer. Jun, Jul, Aug. Autumn. Sep, Oct, Nov. Winter Dec, Jan, Feb.
That's how i always look at it any way0 -

Spring is here when people can be persuaded to believe it is.
A few years ago we used to have a highly profitable time selling plants in a Yellow Book garden that would open specially around the second/third weekends in February for snowdrops and hellebores. Naturally, we sold only those plants, plus a few shrubs that look good at this time of year, like Sarcococca.
If we'd been in the local market, we'd have done very little, except get cold, but folk flocked to the garden if the weather was anything like half-decent, and they were always very keen to buy.
Once those weekends were over, we'd have another month or so off and start our 'real' season in April.;)0
