Draft contract

Hi,
We had an offer accepted on a house two weeks ago. We informed our solicitors a couple of days later. We're still waiting to receive the draft contract from the vendor's solicitors. How long does this normally take? Whats is the draft contract exactly?
Thanks

I'll try and answer this but much of the conveyancing process is still a mystery to me.
When you say 'we' are you talking about you or your solicitor? It's your solicitor that gets the draft contract, you see, not you. It's the contract of sale in draft form as it's your solicitor's job to go through it and check the terms and decide whether they are suitable. They then send it back for amendments etc.
Otherwise, as far as I know, solicitors have their own standard documentation which they send out once they have been instructed (and often have recieved a small deposit from their client). I think they may also need to see the deeds from the mortgage company, so depending on how long this takes as well, I suppose.
Hope this helps. If I've got stuff wrong, then please someone enlighten me too!

Sorry, yes, when I say "We're still waiting to receive the draft contract from the vendor's solicitors" I mean our soliciors are.
Thank you for the advice though.0 -
I'd give the estate agent a call and ask them to find out from the vendor if there's any particular reason for the delay.
