Just been to Sainsburys, and they are now selling tomatoes by individual item, but in a pack. Big ones in a pack are 31p, little ones are 15p each. Had 5 minute discussion with grocery manager (turned into arguement) about which were better value. I like to know how much something is by weight, especially when its a smaller item.Am I now supposed to count the tomatoes in a pack, if thats how they are sold. He stood with hands in pockets and tried to tell me the smaller ones were better value simply because they were cheaper. Yet was unable to tell me the price per kilo so how did he know. These were the 'taste the difference' range. All other tomatoes were sold by kilo, so how can I compare value, if its not a fair comparison. I think this is another way to confuse us, and of course to stop us knowing the true value of an item.

Do what I do, don;t get annoyed about it .. take a pack over to the scales nearby and weigh them and make up my own mind which offers better value. Personally i think they should do away with all this environmental unfriendly packaging and go back to selling many things loose ... unfortunately the consumer is lazy and is more interested in simplicity.
The main thing that comes to my mind though is not whether it is big or small, priced by the pound or kilo, loose or on the vine, red or green etc. etc. or (dare I say it even the price) ... it is how the thing TASTES ... no sense in buying something cheap if it tastes like crap.

Ah... but then you are talking about value for money rather than price, which to be honest is beyond the majority of UK buyers All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
