Could you get a window lock that will allow a window to be opened just enough for the cat to get out but not a burgular in?
If the windows are too high, how about leaving a set of the old fashioned step ladders outside or something for her to use to get up to the window level, a set of boxes, a small storage shed or shelves fited to the outside wall? (something that can be easily removed or fixed)
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

You mentioned that the door is in one panel, so presumably you mean there is no middle rail - sometimes you just have a panel in the bottom half of the door about 30 inches square and the flap fits into that, which is a cheaper option.

Presumably the £125 includes the flap, so if this if for the whole door I don't think that sounds too bad. I think you would be better biting the bullet and doing this rather than fiddling around with windows, tunnels through brickwork etc - what happens if something goes wrong if you try and diy and you get left with a costly bill?

I had a hole knocked into my wall and have two cat flaps either side - it cost me about £50 but that was about 10 years ago now.

I don't think £125 is too bad really.

You could always open your door to let your cat out and in.
