Help! Broadband Software problems

My lovely laptop was happily working with Tesco broadband connection and software, until I went and stayed at my parents. I plugged in their broadband and tried to get online but it would't work. I wasn't surprised when i realised the connection was with Tiscali. So I loaded the Tiscali software and still no joy. I removed the Tesco software using the add and remove programmes and then kept trying. The software for Tiscali just wouldn't do the last part of the sequence and connect me. Then I got the Tesco's cd and removed Tescos software and themn removed and reloaded Tiscali. I then gave up and used dad's computer.
I returned home and have now had exactly the same problems. I have done a system restore to before I left but still no joy.
The only difference that I can see to when I loaded the software initially is there now being anti virus software on there. I have tried to switch off the av software. I can remove the av software if necessary ( then put it on again at work as it is work software for the work laptop).
Broadband connection works fine on OH's comp. I have also tried using the wizard but it can't find the software (it is in the cd drive).
So techie kind people, what ya think?

If I read that right, you haven't put Tesco's software back on? I'd get rid of all of it (Tiscali and Tesco) to make sure, delete your connections and start afresh.0

Well I did this but as I say the software won't load the last bit. When I remove the software after loading it it does ay that I don't have access to a file which I am attempting to remove. I followed this to find this is a read only file.So I changed it to not a rad only and no avail. So I think it won't properly remove the software and then can't load it properly.
Don't know what is it's little problem.

try it in safe mode. what is the filename?
if you buy a router, or wireless router, you don't need any software, and it makes your surfing more secure.. something to consider for the future.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Try what in safe mode? sorry for being dim."You can if you think you can."

have you uninstalled the tiscali software fully, and reinstalled Tesco's?
What is the AV software?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
I have tried to remove the Tiscali and Tesco stuff but as i say get this message about access.
The Av is RM's version of Norton.

I meant shutdown, boot in safe mode (F8) at bootup, and try the uninstall to get around the file problem (but I am not too sure what this problem is related to (tiscali, tesco or AV)?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
