Is this a scam??

Hi All

Just wanted some advise please?

I have today received a letter through my door from e-on, (i've never used e-on as my supplier) and the letter is addressed to the occupier.

It states that I need my electricity meter changing as the one I have currently is old and could be producing inaccurate bills. It says the switch should take around 30 mins and cost me nothing. I can't help but be suspicious, why are e-on doing this work and why have my own supplier (EDF) not been in touch.

Is this just an elaborate why to get me to switch or is the work actually needed on my meter?

Confused??

Thanks for reading

Your meter will be changed by the district supplier, (not your billing supplier, EDF) which in your case may well be e-on.
For example, EDF changed my meter a few years back, because they supply the London area-but I've never had an account with EDF.
What supply district are you in?
If you are suspicious, call e-on and ask them to confirm that the letter is genuine.
Changing meters every ten (?) years or so is routine.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Thanks Macman,

I don't know what supply district I'm in, I live in the North West though!

I called E-on and have made an appointment for them to come and change my meter, I've been in my property for 8 years now and its never been changed so it must be due an upgrade. I was alittle suspicious as you hear of so many ways some utility companies get you to switch, I thought it was some elaborate scheme invented by e-on to get my custom! Sorry e-on!! :D

Check your MPAN number on your bill-last 2 digits of the second line. If it's Lancashire it may be 16, United Utilities is the DNO for that area I think. Or Norweb if it's 13.
You can postcode search for your DNO here:
