  • I've got 3x Rabbits on a card number M584R, does anyone have any idea what prize this would be? (Although I have a sneaky suspicion it may be £10..!)

I'm going to send off for a claim reference today with my SAE, I'm looking forward to recieving my cheque some time next January!

This company is a con. Do not enter their competitions. They also have other companies connected to them, Strike Lucky Games and Mcyintyre and Dodd Ltd. They were all taken to court including Purely Creative but they got away with it because they appealed.

Many of us have had successful claims, myself it must be £50 now. There are ways to get the claim numbers via email/sae so no expensive phone calls.

For the appeal to be successful, the judge must have been satisfied, they didn't get off just because they appealed as you suggest. They appealed and won.

kimminess, the prize 99.9% of the time is the one listed which is the least value ;)

I have just read the article again and i read it wrong they havent got away with it it is still on going. These companies are a con and most of the time you win crap things of little value even if you dont spend £8 or £9 on phone calls/texts. They should be ordered to close down the business. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Why should they be ashamed of themselves if they send out £10 cheques? I have only ever won £10 and I have been doing these scratchcards for a few years now. I also have friends and family that do them as well. I think the majority of people have got wise to phoning them and do it all by post/email. And even if I've spent a couple of quid on stamps, envelopes etc and got a cheap watch that may only be worth £2-3 I'm still happy.....

Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning
  • Is it still possible to get £10? Which cards should I look out for? TIA :)

Its a con thats why. Personally i think the postal option is a waste of time and money, even if it is cheaper. Spending time and money on a crap scratchcard with items/prizes that are not worth much is also a waste of time. They should be ashamed of themselves for running stupid competitions that are worthless and creating the impression that your a winner of a big prize, when in actual fact all you win is £10 or a cheap watch.

Myself I am dead happy to get a £10 cheque when all i've "paid out" is a few 2nd class stamps :D Since you can normally tell what the prize is it is worthwhile. No point in sending off when the minimum prize is a holiday voucher but a £10 minimum prize on the other hand is. With a little experience you soon learn how to play the game and tell which prizes to go in for.

BusyLizze, I haven't seen any cards in ages, and £10 for even longer.

I wonder, has anyone ever tried to obtain a claim number by filling in the contact form on the Purely Creative website?

I don't suppose they'd give it to you that way because you don't have to pay anything out, but I'm curious...

  • Of course it's stupid to fall for such scams but clearly a lot of people do. It makes me livid that they get away with it. The OFT prosecuted them earlier this year but they just find ways around the regulations. One fell out of my wife's copy of Elle the other day. I've written to both Hearst Magazines UK and the OFT, for all the good it will do.
  • Just thought I'd post my input here. I claimed £10 once last year, but personally I thought the effort needed to fill in forms, send off letters, send confirmations etc wasn't worth it. It's certainly not a scam though, they do send the cheque eventually IF you followed the instructions correctly.

I also tried emailing them for a claim code, and they did indeed respond with a valid claim code - so you needn't spend money on that initial stamp. However, I never bothered to follow up on that occasion.
