not all petrol stations are like this, ive used a fair amount from supermarket forecourts, independants and BP, shell etc with no problems,
I dont think the poster suggested ALL petrol stations, where I live there have been 3 seperate cases in 7 Months involving skimming that just happened to be from petrol forecourts, who were "caught", enough for some to deduce a higher percentage of skimming fraud, occurs at certain petrol forecourts. (although there are also cases where certain shopstaff have been involved in skimming also, that is not to say ALL shops skim cards either).

It always boils down to an individual with a chance of holding your card long enough to do a quick swipe without your knowledge.

These are the new mechanisms being used for card skimming on ATMs. They don't have to use cameras nowadays as the information stored is timestamped by the keypad overlays so they can match up the pin and card details later.

    Sneaky bu**ers!!

In Maidstone we had a group of Shell petrol stations where fraud occurred. Skimming did not occur as the Chip and PIN terminals were compromised to steal data. What happened was that whilst a complicit employee was working they allowed an accomplice to modify the terminals. In these cases the petrol station clerk had no need to handle the cards.

I have had my credit card details used fraudulently last month, it happened over two days and luckily my card provider contacted me on the second day to check the transactions out. They sent the forms and new card out to me really quickly. One of them will be very easy to prove wasn't me as it was carried out in Singapore! It was also on the day they contacted me (on my landline so they knew I was actually in this country) and I also used it in my home town that day as I'd forgotten my debit card so they know where I was (also have work cctv and parking tickets to prove it, not that I imagine for a second they'd go to those sort of lengths to verify it with the other proof I have).

Overall I am very impressed with how it has been handled by my provider and as long as it all ends up without be being penalised I'll stay that way. Just wish I knew how they ended up with the details in the first place as with it being a credit card I have never used it in an ATM machine, hardly ever use it to be honest and my OH has run every scan going on my laptop which have all come back clear.

There's been a big problem in our town with cash machines at the tow supermarkets. We now tend to get cash back.

In the US recently, we noted that users have to put card in and take out again promptly.

Well the other week she got one payment refunded but still a waiting another. We chased on Abbey several times now and on Friday they said we get the money by Monday. Today (Tuesday) we find out they wont be paying even though money was taken out from a different machine in same town but 200 odd miles away form where we live. 3 fraudulent transaction took place in Edinburgh we live 200 odd miles away from Edinburgh

She has proof she was at college at time as she gets EMA and need to be registered in. My other daughter is disabled is also at college one those days. Both me and my wife were at home on 3rd time we got money taken when alarms bells at bank flagged up that and refused to pay low life £300, that day we were in and can prove it as we had plumber round to fix boiler and he told him what happened so as a conversation really

I made a complaint to banking ombudsman now. I seem to recall the onus is on bank to prove you may be negligent. Can't see how being negligent just using the banks machine to check balance only can then result in bank honouring 2 fraudulent transactions of which one was refused to low life but not the 3rd surely she can be only customer that day that had card cloned

Daughter finally got all her money back after a month

Bank said they pay up last Friday and check by Tuesday this week. On Tuesday they wouldn't pay no explanation as to why they wouldn't pay. I wrote an email to them as they refuse to speak to me threaten take all our money out of all our accounts, they rang that day and said they pay this was Tuesday, only now have they finally paid up

When I buy fuel I use the debit card pump at Asda. At least that ensures that no-one else handles my card. If I am using an ATM I always use the one inside the bank or B/S and also have a quick check to make sure that there is nothing but a smooth metal plate above the keyboard.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
